  Xifeng 6
  Species: Populus deltoides
  Scientific Name:Populus deltoides x P. cathayana ‘Xifeng 6’
  Category: Clone
  Certification: Pre-certified (for 5 years)
  Registration code: GUO-R-SC-PD-002-2006

  Characteristics
Tolerant to cold and infertile soils. It grows well in areas where elevation is below 2,600 m and the annual average temperature is above 3℃, showing no frozen injury. Tree trunk is straight and round. Average DBH 8.48cm at 5-year-old, bigger than Beijing poplar used as control by 39.7%. Its average height is 7.73m, bigger than Beijing poplar by 34.7%. Resistant to leave diseases. Actually Xifeng 6 has no leaf diseases and shows a stable disease-resistance. However, Beijing poplar, Huanglin 1 poplar, Cathay Poplar and Ledu Poplar, all has been infected with leaf-spot disease and leaf-rust disease.

  Silvicultural Techniques:
For reforestation, the best is to grow 2-year-old stocks in nursery. The nursery should be irrigated with freezing water before winter to prevent stocks from losing its water in winter. In spring, the stock is removed from the nursery and stay in water for 2 to 3 days. Irrigation should be available at planting sites. They may be located on river banks in mountainous areas of the plateau, or located at flat ground of ditches or villages, or along irrigation canals in a sandy region. 3 times of irrigation after planting needed to secure survival.

  Suitable Areas for Planting:
Xining city and sites with an elevation of 800-2,000m in the surrounding plateau areas with a mean annual temperature of above 3 ℃.

  Xifeng 25
  Species: Populus deltoides
Scientific Name: (Populus deltoides x P. cathayana) ‘Xifeng 25’

  Certification: Pre-certified (for 5 years)
  Registration code: GUO-R-SC-PD-003-2006

  Characteristics
Tolerant to cold and infertile soils. Growing well in areas where elevation is below 2,600 m and the annual average temperature is above 3℃ without any freezing injury. Straight and round trunk. Average DBH 11.4cm at 6-year-old, bigger than Beijing poplar used as control by 32.6%. Average height 9.8m, bigger than Beijing poplar by 27.3%. No leaf diseases was found and with a stable disease-resistance. However, Beijing poplar, Huanglin 1 poplar, Cathay Poplar and Ledu Poplar, all has been infected with leaf-spot disease and leaf-rust disease.

  Langfang Poplar 4
  Species: Populus canadensis
Scientific Name: Populus canadensis cv. shanghaiguanensis x ( (P. simonii x P. deltoides) +Ulmus pumila)
  Category: Clone
  Certification: Pre-certified (for 5 years)
  Registration code: GUO-R-SC-PC-004-2006

  Characteristics:
Resistant to salinity, grows normally under the site condition of pH8.1-8.9 and salt content of 0.3%. Under the saline condition in Tianjin, at 14 year-old, tree height is 14.6m, DBH 31.21cm and wood volume 0.538m3. Long wood fiber makes it suitable for pulp production.

  Silvicultural Techniques:
Roots (up to 20-30 cm above the root system) need to be soaked in water for 48-72 hours. Tree planting is done in later March and early April. Set the stock straight in the planting hole, ensuring that its root system is freely spreading without twisting the roots. Sufficient water should be guaranteed (Thorough irrigation applied immediately after planting and irrigation again 10 days after planting.)

  Suitable Areas for Planting
Beijing, Tianjin and areas of Hebei south to the Great Wall (excluding Weichang and Longhua areas)
