There is another particular system in controlling the criminal cases ,that is jury .considering lay members of the public chosen from a random selection of the population may be impartial and justice as for this is not his matters .The right to a trial by jury involves the concept of being tried by one’s peers .They thought fact affairs should be judged by normal people.In UK, jury is responsible for the body of the case,in other words ,to determine the facts of the case ,including the most important fact. Juries are trusted to reach verdicts without giving reasons or explanations .Then judge will make the sentence upon the verdict the jury has arrived. So jury plays an significant role in the criminal justice system in UK which back up since twelfth century .People qualified for jury in the trial which is to take place according to the Juries A ct 1974 are selected to the register of the electors. Juries are currently composed of 12men and women from the electors at random since the fourteenth century . To be eligible ,they must between 18 to 70, ordinarily resident in the UK for at least 5 years since the age of 13, members of the judiciary and legal profession ,the clergy and the mentally disordered are ineligible ,those who has received a custodial sentence of more than five years of a life edntence, or has been sentenced are disqualified. Since jury composed by 12 jurors for the case has been made ,the jury will be told by the judge that it is their duty to seek ,to arrive a unanimous verdict , which means all the opinions are in consensus .However, when the jury have been deliberating for a long period and directed by the judge ,majority verdicts are also acceptable .If the jury cannot agree on the verdict ,the judge will discharge the jury and the case will be retried at a late date by a different jury,so it will cost so much that arrived a verdict will take a long time and too much money ,many people involved in it .Some argument also arised because of the verdict may not consider the law even where the accused has quite leearly committed the act .Since jury cost so much ,it can be used in Crown Court only ,it is not necessary to use it in magistrate’s courts. However ,as the development of judicial system, jury plays a less important part in UK.
